Week Four – Are You Human?

To kick off this week’s discussion relating to strategies of freedom, we were tasked with sharing an example of a photographic image not made directly by a human.  Our choice had to include the following:

  • What is it?
  • What does it show?
  • Where did you find it?
  • How was it made?
  • What was it for?

Taking inspiration from the image used to inspire us, The Cat Scan, I opted to highlight my love of dogs through the work of the first ‘phodographer’.

This is part of a Nikon project that included connecting heart monitors to cameras via Bluetooth and then Grizzler the dog; when his heart rate goes up a photo is taken. A fun way to see what gets your dog interested and for you to get to know your dog.

On the Nikon web page its asks: What if emotions could take photographs?

This story is a few years old now, but was shared on Bored Panda and I shared it on my Humans and Dogs of St Agnes page – see image above.

Ultimately, for Nikon, this is a means to sell cameras but none-the-less the phodographer images are not directly made by human hand but the heart beat of a canine – I love it.
